Turn a PNG into JPEG and check its white background

Convert PNG images to JPEG with a chosen quality setting and review how transparent regions and sharp edges change.

A PNG can contain transparency, crisp interface details, or a photograph saved without a JPEG quality setting. Converting it to JPEG is useful when a receiving application asks for that format. The main decision is whether the picture still works after transparent regions become white and the image is encoded at your chosen quality.

Set quality with the content in mind

Select PNG files and inspect their upload previews. Choose a quality from 1 to 100; 80 is a reasonable first trial rather than a promised result. Photographs often tolerate a lower setting differently from diagrams, screenshots, and fine lettering. Use the same original for each comparison.

The converter draws a white background before drawing the PNG. There is no background-color field. If you require a dark or branded background, prepare that composition in an editor before converting. Do not assume a checkerboard shown by another viewer is part of the image itself.

Process the selection and inspect both the resulting thumbnails and downloaded files. Look closely at the outlines of logos, small text, and partly transparent shadows. A small preview can conceal changes around these boundaries.

Check a transparent-logo example

Suppose a PNG logo is 800 by 800 pixels, with a red symbol surrounded by transparent space. At quality 85, the export remains 800 by 800 pixels. The surrounding space becomes white. The red symbol stays in the same position; conversion neither crops the empty area nor enlarges the artwork.

The exported byte size depends on the actual content and encoder. Quality 85 does not mean an 85 percent size reduction. If the destination places the logo on a colored page, the white square will still be visible because the JPEG no longer carries transparency. Retaining PNG is preferable when that transparent placement is essential.

Handle batches carefully

Up to 20 PNGs can share one quality setting. Each input must be no larger than 20 MB or 40 megapixels, and combined input/output must stay within 100 MB. Download outputs individually or as a ZIP, then check at least one image with transparency and one with fine detail.

Processing stays in this browser. Canvas export can discard metadata and color profiles, while animated inputs become still frames. Retain the sources and give the JPEGs clear delivery names. Image Compressor lets you compare other output formats. JPG to PNG can make a PNG copy later, but it cannot restore the transparency or detail removed from this JPEG.
