Convert JPEG to PNG for a compatible editing copy

Create PNG copies of JPEG images while understanding dimensions, existing compression artifacts, metadata, and batch downloads.

Some editing or upload workflows specifically request PNG. Converting a JPEG gives you a PNG copy that those workflows can open, while leaving the original file available. It does not reverse compression already present in the JPEG or reveal detail that the camera never recorded.

Prepare the JPEG selection

Open JPG to PNG Converter and choose files with .jpg or .jpeg extensions. Inspect the upload previews to confirm that you selected the right versions and orientations. This converter has a fixed PNG output, so there is no quality slider to tune and no format choice to make.

You can process up to 20 images with the same conversion. Inputs are limited to 20 MB each and 40 megapixels, with a 100 MB combined input/output limit. PNG copies can occupy substantially more space than their JPEG sources, so begin with a few representative images when preparing a large collection.

Run the conversion, compare the before/after thumbnails, and download files individually or together in a ZIP. Save the export in a separate folder if your application uses filenames to reconnect assets. Changing the extension also changes the reference that a website or document may need.

Follow an exact dimension example

Imagine a JPEG photograph measuring 1600 by 900 pixels. Converting it produces a PNG measuring 1600 by 900 pixels. The operation changes the file format, not the crop or the image dimensions. There are still 1,440,000 pixels in the output.

If the source has visible blockiness around a sign, that blockiness remains part of the decoded image. PNG does not clean it away. Likewise, converting a JPEG with a white background does not make the white area transparent. A different editing operation would be needed to remove that background.

Open the downloaded PNG in the destination application before replacing any working assets. Check both appearance and file size rather than assuming a format conversion improved either one.

Preserve originals and context

The conversion runs in your browser. Canvas export may omit metadata and color profiles, so keep the JPEG when capture information or a color-managed workflow matters. Animated supported inputs are flattened by image processing, although ordinary JPEG photographs are still images already.

If the browser cannot decode a file, confirm that it is a genuine JPEG rather than another format renamed with a .jpg extension. Use Image Resizer if the receiving system also needs smaller dimensions. For a later photographic delivery copy, PNG to JPG provides an adjustable JPEG quality setting.
