Frequently asked questions

Why is one GB approximately 0.9313 GiB?

GB uses 1000 cubed bytes while GiB uses 1024 cubed bytes. The same byte quantity therefore has a smaller numerical value in GiB.

Does converting units reduce a file size?

No. It changes the numerical representation of the same quantity. Compression requires an actual file-processing tool.
