Review a thumbnail and title together before publishing

Use a local 1280 by 720 listing mockup to inspect image fit, title wording, and channel context.

An image that looks clear at full size may communicate less when placed beside a title. The YouTube Thumbnail Preview Tool puts your chosen image, title, and channel name into one simple listing mockup. Use it to spot repeated wording, weak contrast, or an image whose important detail occupies too little space.

Prepare the image and listing text

Choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP file in Choose an image. The shared image loader accepts files up to 20 MB and 40 megapixels. Enter Your video title and Channel name, then choose Generate result. The image is decoded and drawn in your browser; this operation does not publish a thumbnail or connect to your YouTube account.

Start with the title you would actually use. A placeholder such as “My next video” makes it harder to judge whether the picture and words explain the same idea. Keep a copy of the original image so any later cropping or text edits are reversible.

Understand how the image fits

The preview uses a 1280 by 720 canvas with a dark background. It scales the whole image proportionally to fit inside that rectangle and centers it. It does not crop the image to fill the frame.

For a concrete example, a 1200 by 1200 square image is scaled by min(1280/1200, 720/1200), or 0.6. The displayed image becomes 720 by 720 pixels. Centering leaves 280 pixels of dark space on both the left and right. A 1280 by 720 source instead fills the canvas with no such side bars. These calculations explain why the same artwork may look very different after a change in aspect ratio.

If you want a deliberate crop before reviewing the listing, prepare it in the Social Media Image Resizer. Check that the crop retains faces, labels, and other essential context.

Read the preview as an approximation

The tool places the title and channel name beneath the canvas and reports title characters. It does not reproduce every YouTube interface, screen width, or device. It also does not measure click-through rate, predict performance, or check whether your title fits the publishing field. Use the Title Length Checker for the separate character check.

There is no image export action in this tool’s result. Its purpose is local inspection. Animated source formats should not be treated as an animation preview, and very large decoded images may strain a small device. After revising the artwork, choose the updated file and generate the preview again.
