Video & audio

Extract a video's audio into a separate MP3

Create an MP3 listening copy from a video, check that an audio stream exists, and understand the re-encoding and privacy limits.

A video may contain a useful interview, voice note, or presentation soundtrack that you want to hear separately. MP4 to MP3 exports an audio listening copy while discarding video from the output. Use it with material you are entitled to process and keep the original when the visuals provide essential context.

Choose a video with actual audio

Upload one video no larger than 50 MB. The picker supports MP4 and several other common video containers, but codec support still depends on the local processing engine. A video can be valid and play silently because it has no audio stream at all.

There are no bitrate or clip-range settings in this tool. Select Process media to encode the available audio as a 192 kbps MP3. The video track is excluded. If you need only part of the soundtrack, make the audio copy first and use the trimming tool afterward.

First use downloads a roughly 32 MB engine. It runs in a single-thread WebAssembly worker in your browser, so keep the tab open. A desktop browser and short source are sensible choices for a task that can consume substantial memory.

Check a presentation example

Suppose a 45-second MP4 contains a speaker’s voice and a slide animation. Processing creates an MP3 containing the audio across that source, with no slide images. The nominal audio duration remains approximately 45 seconds, allowing for ordinary encoding details.

Listen to the start, middle, and end before sharing. Check that the intended speaker is present and that no important explanation depended on something visible only in the slides. A successful conversion cannot supply spoken descriptions that were absent from the recording.

If the MP4 has no audio track, the tool cannot manufacture a soundtrack. It reports a missing required stream or processing failure instead of producing meaningful speech. Confirm the source in a media player before retrying with the same file.

Understand the listening copy

MP3 export re-encodes audio rather than preserving every original compressed byte. It does not improve a low-quality source, remove background noise, or separate voices from music. Output size is measured after processing and is not guaranteed to meet a particular allowance.

All file processing remains in this browser. Damaged files, unsupported codecs, or the two-minute execution limit can stop a job; Cancel processing is available. Metadata and encoding characteristics may change, so retain the source. Use Audio Trimmer for a focused excerpt, or Audio Format Converter when a later workflow specifically requires WAV or FLAC instead of MP3.
